Nassau


The nature park Nassau as a landscape conservation area is located within the Rhenish slate mountains and got an expansion of 590 km2. The valley of the river Lahn is the link between east and west. The park covers parts of the Westerwald, the Taunus and the middle Rhine valley with their typical biota.

Almost 100 breeding bird species, 21 dragonfly species, 36 locus species, 13 amphibian species and 8 reptilian species are native to this area.
Typical for the nature park are beech forests and on limy soils different orchid species.
A network of ca. 250 supra regional and 750 regional track paths in addition to many ride and cycle tracks offers varied recreation activities. Recommended places of excursion are the museums in Höhr- Grenzhausen and Nastätten as well as the numerous castle ruins like Nassau, Balduinstein, Katzenelnbogen, Diez, Braubach, Kamp- Bornhofen, Lahnstein and Arzbach.
