Naturpark
Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide

Vast forests – silent lakes

The large pine woodlands, the lakes, the dunes, the meadows, the neglected grasslands und the quit villages characterise the nature park Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide.
60% of the area is covered with forest, which is cultivated according to a sustainable forestry and the four fisheries offer their recent catches in restaurants and fishmongers. If you like you can drop your own fishing rod as well.
The renaturation of moors and rivers and the guidance of the visitors were the main subjects of the nature conserving activities.
An outstanding attribute is the presence of 15-16 breeding couples of our heraldic animal, the white-tailed eagle and 11 ospreys couples. Moreover does the European otter populate the whole area.
The nature park provides over 250 km of cycle tracks and track paths and four nature trials lead cross the nature reserves and provide a lot of interesting information.
If you want to get more information concerning the history of landscape and people, you can do that at the Museum Goldberg, Museum Alt Schwerin, in Germany’s only evacuee museum Wolhyn or at the information centre Karower Meiler.
