Mecklenburgische Schweiz und Kummerower See


The nature park Mecklenburgische Schweiz und Kummerower See is well known for its variety and the beauty of the landscape. In the north it contains the Kummerower Lake and its surrounding area and the Peene valley as far as Demmin.
The so-called Mecklenburgische Schweiz is the heart of the nature park. Ridges of 100 m altitude, which consist glacier formed moraines, characterise the whole area as well as large lowlands.
The two large lakes are located here and the altitude difference offers a great view over the open landscape.
The stretches of water still are coherent network, were an important area for the biota. Examples were the European otter, the beaver and a lot of water birds like the osprey.
As a recreation area the nature park offers many and varied opportunities. A large track path makes it possible, to discover the charming landscape in an active way, doesn’t matter if on foot, by bike or on the water. But not only the nature interested visitor get it’s money worth, the cultural orientated got a lot to discover as well.
Special places of were Basedow and the castle “Burg Schlitz”.
