Naturpark Bergisches Land
The Campaign called "Vielfalt lebt" (Diversity is living) is the prominent projekt of the Naturpark. This campaign pushs the Agrobiodiversity and helps to stop loosing companion animals and useful plants
The nature park Bergisches Land lies between the Cologne-Siegburg bay in the west, the Sauerland in the east, the Westerwald in the south and the city strip Wuppertal – Remscheid – Solingen in the north. Not high mountain peaks and deep ravines are dominant, but the landscape is stamped by wooded highs in longs waves and grass valley. The advantages of high precipitation in the Bergisches Land were used early. The dammed water in water supply dams and reservoirs were used for the drive of the machines. Time after time 16 water supply dams were built, which turned to be attractive places for tourists. The water supply dams are taboo for water activities, but after all they are popular areas of relaxation in the Bergisches Land, the land of dams. From various vantage points and observation towers the visitor has the possibility to watch the “hilly world” with its charming wooded areas. The houses of the farmers and citizens form the face of the landscape. Everywhere the black of the slate and of the timbered houses, the white of the windows and doors and the green of the Shutters built up a harmonic Triad. The most important church construction of the Bergisches Land is the cathedral of Altenberg, one of the largest gothic treasures on the German ground. Five village churches in the “Oberbergische” are part of the so-called “bonten Kerken” due to their special paintings in the interior. The castle at the river Wupper, once residence of the lords, is now a museum. Castle Gimborn near Marienheide is an impressive building in a forest, built in the 13th century as a water castle.
