Bergstraße-Odenwald

Bergstraße and Odenwald, two regions of different character and hence combined in different ways.
The largest part of the Odenwald and the Bergstraße lies in Hesse, but it ranges also the Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The highs of the Odenwald protect the Bergstraße from cold winds and let bloom cherry-, peach-, and Mandel-trees, while the rest of Germany is dreaming of springtime. The Romans, which named the land strip between the Rhein and Odenwald via strata montana, have felt surely in between chestnuts, figs and wine like home.
A Mediterranean magic stayed in the Bergstraße, and the wine is also tasty. Further you surely can enjoy delicious asparagus around the village Lampertheim. In the Odenwald people are modest, but nevertheless have a good taste, which can be experienced at the famous annually potato and lamb weeks.
Though hiking through an autumn colored forest is one of best things to do, a walk in the dark forest following historical traces worth it all seasons. You may discover roman frontier buildings, legendary ruined castles, like Wildenburg, in which Wolfram von Eschenbach has written his famous “Parzival”, and everywhere a Siegfried fountain.
The medieval “Nibelungen” song names the Odenwald as the hunting area of the Burgunden, but not the exact place of Siegfried’s murder.

Experience the legendary Odenwald and the romantic Bergstraße!
