Naturpark
Dübener Heide

A few kilometers in the northeast of the Leipzig metropolitan area starts – almost surprisingly – a landscape with a totally different face.
The nature park Dübener Heide ranges between the river meadow of the Elbe and Mulde to the north until the Luther city Wittenberg. Pine- and mixed forests form more than the half of the wavy cultural landscape, which is the largest combined forest area of the middle German narrow land. The protected nature paradises are spread in the diverse landscape and show a unique flora und fauna. In the moors and humid areas nest cranes, storks, sometimes ospreys and other rare bird species. Furthermore, sundews and cotton grasses are here still existent. The Elbe beaver and its tracks can be watched at many places.
White birch forests, lakes and ponds, meadows, acres, little villages and windmills characterize the landscape. In the villages old customs and traditional trade are maintained.
The Dübener Heide is home for several historical and architectural treasures. Like the thousand years old castle Düben, the park Burgkemmnitz with Arboretum, the water castle in Reinharz and one of the largest and most exciting labyrinths of Europe in Altjeßnitz.
The nature park is abundant of sights, touristy as well as sporty offers and invites you for recreation as well as for a longer stay. Worthwhile mentioning are the several riding schools, cycle way, water sport facilities. Concerning the accommodation the offer ranges from luxury hotels to pensions, apartments, farms, hostels to campsites.
