Naturpark Habichtswald
The nature park Habichtswald is the north border of the Hessian uplands. It ranges from the Weser highland to the Waldecker Land, a foothill of the Sauerland. The main area of the park is the Habichtforest itself with the peaks of Hohen Gras (615m) and Langenberg (556m) in the south.
Since 1962 the 474 km2 covering nature park pulls tourists from near and far. Due to the good travel connection to the Rhein-Main-area, the Hanover-area and the Ruhr-area it’s very easy to reach. The hiker will find a dense trial network, which connects, as traditional routes (“student trail“), cities and villages. Furthermore there are a lot of loop roads, which can be reached by public transportation easily.
Gems of mediaeval architecture are the cities Wolfhagen, Zierenberg, Naumburg und Niedenstein with their timbered houses, stony towers and romantic alleys. Also famous is the mountain park in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, which ranks as one of the greatest creations of the baroque era.
This place is the location of the famous weekly trick fountains as well, where 300 m3 water falls down the cascades in front of the castle.
