Naturpark Haßberge
The nature park Haßberge is one of the youngest nature parks in Bavaria. With its 80.000ha it’s one of the smallest. It ranges from the main valley and Haßfurt in the south to Grabfeld and Bad Königshofen in the north.
Over 50 % of the area is covered with wood. Characteristic for the westside and the main valley is the mixed area with thermophilic oak trees und small vineyards, where a lot of rare plant species can be found. The existence of stone-crawfishes still located in the becks indicates the very good water quality. The whole nature park shows a lot of untouched cultural landscapes, characterised by the often change between meadows, hedges, and vineyards.
Moreover the nature park is optimally equipped with resting places, playgrounds, youth campsites and nature trials. Just new opened: The trail "The Grenzgänger"and the stone trial near Marolsweisach.
20 fortifications and over 40 castles really justify the phrase of the “land of castles and ruins“ as an attribute of the Haßberge. So the once daunting castles of Altenstein and Lichtenstein still conquer the landscape as spectacular ruins. As an example for worth seeing churches, the romantic church of Obermerzbach, Bad Königshofen and Eyershausen should be mentioned.
