Naturpark
Hessische Rhön

The nature park is located in the east of Fulda near the Thuringian-Bavarian Border and includes parts of the Rhön foreland, the Kuppigen Rhön and the Hohen Rhön. High altitude areas without forest and wood covered peaks characterise the varied Rhön landscape. The world famous Wasserkuppe, birthplace of gliding flight and Hesses' highest Mountain (952m) is also part of this landscape.

The Rhön always worth a visit, because of the varied possibilities for recreation and sport activities, doesn’t matter if you want to hike, flight or to perform winter sport.
Because of the carefully treatment of the nature by agriculture, the Rhön is home of a big amount of rare plant and animal species and known as “Land of open distance.“
This is only one of the reasons, why the Rhön was acclaim as biosphere reserve by the UNESCO back in 1991.
A lot of nature trails like the geological hiking trail around the Wasserkuppe and within the nature protection area “Rotes Moor“ convey to historical and environmental knowledge. Moreover you got a very good view from the Wasserkuppe over the whole area and it’s popular places of excursions.
