Naturpark Hohe Mark
Located in the north of Europe’s largest industrial district, the Ruhrgebiet, the nature park Hohe Mark is the fourth largest nature park in North Rhine - Westphalia
A landscape can't be more multifaceted than this. Though it’s mainly smooth, you will find a very varied relief, especially in the woodland between Haltern and Reken, the Hohe Mark, after which the park is named. The park is covered with 35% forest and stirred with a rural cultural landscape, which stretch of water offers a lovely flair.
The Romans enter this area from the west and built fortifications in the southeast of Haltern, where you can visit the roman museum nowadays. Other popular places of excursion are the moated castles near Lembeck, Raesfeld, Velen and Borken-Gemen, which can be counted to the most interesting castles within the Munster land. A very good track path crosses the whole park. The queen of the five great cycling routes is the “100- castle- route”.
