Südeifel e.V.
The nature park Südeifel is the German part of the cross bordering Germany- Luxembourg nature park, the only one in Europe. Three inner cores of 500ha were declared.
The north of the park (Islek) is still a part of the main Eifel and is characterised by a raw climate and mountain ridges of max. 570m. A lot of highlands stayed sparely populated and are still wooded all over.
In the south of the Islek the Bitburger Gutland is situated. Due to one of the warmest climates in Central Europe many mediteranian animal and plants are native in this area.
In some reaches of the park you got the opportunity to watch rare orchids, butterflies and other treasures of nature. Outstanding charming is the area of the Luxembourg sandstone in the south. In the valleys of Sauer and Prüm the sandstone is cut to scarps and canyons.
