Naturpark
Hoher Vogelsberg

In the heart of Hesse lies the nature park Hoher Vogelsberg, the oldest nature park of Hesse and the second oldest of Germany. Hoher Vogelsberg is situated between the cities Frankfurt-Gießen-Fulda. The beauties of nature, varied recreational possibilities and the silence of the landscape are offered to the visitors of the nature park.

The centre of the nature park is the Oberwald, a plateau covered with deciduous- and mixed forest and the elevations of Taufstein (773 m) and Hoherodskopf (764 m). The Unterer Vogelsberg, a characteristic hedge landscape with species-rich meadows, fields and forests, frames Hoher Vogelsberg.
Forests, a moor, source rivers are well accessible through track paths and bring the visitor close to the variety of the landscape. Lakes invite for swimming and camping, paths, fishing- and riding possibilities are available in abundance. One of the attractions is the trip with the covered wagons, which is offered at the weekends. Friends of gliding can start from five points.
In the wintertime Vogelsberg is covered by snow, which enables winter sport possibilities.
The nature park concentrates as a main point of emphasis on nature- and forest education. Contact can be found in the nature protection hostel Hoherodskopf and in the nature protection information point on the Hoherodskopf
