Deutsch-Belgischer Naturpark Hohes Venn-Eifel
Forest, water and wide mountain highs are particular characteristics of the landscape of the cross-border German-Belgium nature park Hohes Venn-Eifel.
In the northeast ranges the Venn foreland, which is formed by dairy farming and forests. Its sensitive highs are perfect for bicycle rides.
The neighbored Hohes Venn is an extraordinary high moor area with a large intact high moor surface.
The east of Hohes Venn adjoins at the Rureifel with large forests and the deeply incised Rurtal. A particularity is the Monschau hedge land with its 6m high hedges. Attractive excursion areas are the15 dams and reservoirs, especially the Rursee with its water sport facilities.
The high wooded mountain ridges are characteristic for the Hocheifel in the south, which are cut through idyllic stream valleys of the Prum and the Kyll. An historical city center and idyllic castles form various villages. The highs enable doing winter sport.
The chalky Eifel at the eastside of the nature park is warmer, dryer and highly formed through agriculture as the neighbored areas. With its special flora and its fossil richness the chalky Eifel offers the experience of nature of a special rarity.

With a variety of events concerning the topics nature, geology, mine as well as forestry and agriculture, several visitor centers, two visitor mines and various tours and trails the German-Belgium nature park Hohes Venn-Eifel offers its visitors a variety of possibilities to discover the landscape on a relaxing manner.
The 2.700 km2 large nature park is one of the few international large reserve areas in Germany. Following the slogan “Eifel – Lust auf Natur” (“Eifel - in the mood for nature”) the Eifel offers varying quality-offers for hiking, bicycle tours and active discovering of nature. Doing these activities the visitor always meets evidences of history in the Eifel: Caves from the stone age, impressive buildings of the Romans, more than 100 castles and monasteries or the ecologic highly valued remains of the Westwallanlage. And the “protagonist” is always the impressive landscape with a colored plant- and animal world.
Small, comfortable hotels, campsites and a traditional kitchen are inviting you for an active and relaxing holiday in the Eifel.
