Naturpark
Holsteinische Schweiz

With 75.328 ha the nature park Holsteinische Schweiz is the largest nature park in Schleswig Holstein. It’s located between the cities Kiel and Lübeck.
More than 200 lakes and a colourful mosaic made of hills, meadows and wall hedges mark the landscape. In spring it’s mainly the blooming rape fields, which offers the tourist a flavour and vision of delight.

Moreover the nature park contains the largest lake of Schleswig Holstein (Plöner See) and Germany’s northernmost cave system. You can find it in Bad Segeberg. The hilly landscape is a result of the last ice age, when the Scandinavian glaciers covered the north of Germany.
The stretch of water is home for many animals. If you are lucky, you can watch the biggest north European bird of prey the white-tailed eagle. In spring and autumn a lot of migratory birds stops here, too.
The nature park Holsteinische Schweiz got a vast honeycomb like network of track paths and a lot of opportunities for cycling, sailing and visiting places of excursion like the nature park station in Plön, where you get a lot of information for all ages.
