Naturpark Märkische Schweiz
The notion “Schweiz” stands for lakes, green fields, small villages, hills, becks, forests and ravines. And the nature park Märkische Schweiz deserves the name in every case. It’s situated within the Mark Brandenburg, 60km east of Berlin and the river Oder.
Due to the beauty of its nature the touristy development did already start before 1900. Not only the beauty of the nature is notable, many plants are worthy of protection. Through the whole park crosses the Buckower Rinne, a furrow, which was formed by claciers’ melt water. The whole area around the Buckower Kessel was formed at the last ice age 12.000 years ago, and you can still find the complete glacial sequence in the landscape. Specific places of excursion are the ruins of the Altfriedland monastery and the Brecht Weigel house in Buckow.
