Meißner-Kaufunger Wald


Over 50% of the nature park is covered with forest. Numerous meadow valleys with its clean trout becks.
From above the Kalb (720m), a popular vantage point, you got a panoramic view. If the weather’s clear you got the opportunity to have panoramic watch the Harz and the Thuringian Land

The varied landscape, the mountains, the silent forests and the charming villages with a lot of leisure institutions fulfil the desires of everyone. If you want to do outdoor recreation and active travel the nature park is a good place for soaring, water and winter sports. Moreover you got the opportunity to go fishing, riding are join a guided tour.

Cultural places of excursion are castles, monasteries and churches, like Germerode, Oberkaufungen, Werleshausen and Witzenhausen.
The restored horse-capstan Rossgang in Oberkaufungen is the last of its kind in Western Europe. Another natural places of excursion are the basalt formations at the Hoher Meißner. A great experience await he visitor early may, when 150.000 bleeding cherry trees change the Werra valley into a sea of blossoms.
