Naturpark
Südheide

The nature park Südheide ranges from Celle to the lovely villages Eschede, Hermansburg, Müden, Unterlüß and Winsen an der Adler.
The soils, the geology and the relief have their seeds in the ice age and the main character of the recent landscape is one of the largest woodlands of Lower Saxony. The silence and the loneliness abet the existence of many rare species like the black stork and the crane.
An important part of this landscapes are the heath areas between the woodland, which offer a great experience during their anthesis. Rare species like the European otter and the trout are native to the becks like the Lutter, where over 160 rare plant and animal species are domiciled. Source of many heath becks are the moors, which, embedded between forests and heaths, offer the visitor a romantic impression.
Hundred of track path and cycle tracks are useable as well as the bridle paths on compact sand soils.
The river Örtze is one of the most attractive stretches of running water in northern Germany. You can find the typical gastronomic offers in almost every heath village. Further places of excursion are the typical small churches of Eldinngen and Müden.
