The nature park TERRA.vita runs from the large river arch of Weser by Porta Westfalica to Osnabrück to „Hahnenmoor“ in Artland and from Bielefeld to the water triangle “Mittellandkanal/Dortmund-Ems Kanal” in Hörstel.
Here you can relax and addict to your desire for change from everyday life. Distinctive are the wooded highs of the “Teutoburger Wald”, the “Wiehen” mountains and the park landscape of the “Osnabrücker Land”. The nature park TERRA.vita belongs to the few nature parks of Germany with different and hence diversified landscapes,
TERRA.vita is the first German nature park, which was incorporated in the European Geopark-Network. The themes land and geology combine the different landscapes: whether the saurian tracks, the “Varus” battle, brines or lakes. Every origin comes from the ground. This is the red thread of TERRA.vita.
Here you can experience 300 million years of geology at one day. The nature park TERRA.vita extends in the form of two narrow green strips over the crests of the “Teutoburger Wald” and the “Wiehen” mountains. The most famous natural monuments are the saurian tracks near Bad Essen-Barkhausen and the bifurcation near Melle-Gesmold. Large stone graves are evidence of the earlier civilization in thes area. Like for example the Varus battle, which has taken place in the Kalkrieser dip near Bramsche in 9 AD. A lot of medieval castles can be found in the “Osnabrücker Land”. Typical for the landscape are the beautiful traditional timbered houses. The particular sights are the villages and the wonderful historical city centers with restored timbered houses from the 17th and 18th century, as well as the water- and windmills. The nature park can be discovered through various trails or on the water. Brine-, thermal brine- and Kneipp-spas provide the patients with the healing power of the nature.
