Naturpark
Oberer Bayerischer Wald

The nature park Oberer Bayerischer Wald is with 179.600 hectare the largest nature park in Bavaria. The mountains Großer Arber (1.456 m), Osser (1.293 m), Enzian (1.285 m), Schwarzeck (1.238 m), Kaitersberg (1.132 m) and Hoher Bogen (1.073 m) as well as the river valleys and lakes give the nature park a charming and varied landscape.
The area of the nature park was settled in the prehistoric time. One of the most beautiful hand-axes of Germany was found near Pösing in the Regental and is araung 80.000 years old.

The nature park Bayerischer Walt is part of the “Böhmische Masse”, which belongs to prehistoric mountains. The main stones are granite and gneiss. The flora is species-rich, especially in the protected biotopes, where you can find flowers like orchids, cotton grass, trollius, arnica and others.
A dense net of track paths and 900 km signed cycle ways lead through the nature park. Cross-country ski runs and ski pistes as well as nature-friendly golf courses combine the wish for relaxation with nature protection and nature experience. An interesting destination for active people is the high-wire park Lam, where you can climb up to 12 m highs.
