Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal

In the nature park Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal the western and northwestern edges of the Thuringian basin are combined to a reserve area. Long-extended wooded row of hills accompany the visitor between Eisenach up to Heiligenstadt. The highs of Hainich and the deep incised shell limestone plateau of the Eichsfeld are crossed only a few times by streets.

In the southwest the Werra formed the landscape. With its 870 km2, 106 municipalities with more than 70.000 habitants, the nature park Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal ist the second largest reserve area in Thuringia. The national park Hainich is embedded in the nature park Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal.

The highs of Eichsfeld, the romantic Werratal or the extended beech forests of the Hainich are worth being visited each season. Well sign-posted track paths and trails open up the most beautiful areas of the nature park and the nature park-information center are interesting meeting points.
With the help of the nature park track map you can plan your discoveries along your wishes. Professional nature guides show on walk and excursions the “most beautiful corners” of the nature park.
On the trace of nature…, from lectures and excursions to canoe tours on the Werra, the annual events of the nature park fulfills every wish.
