Naturpark Schlaubetal
The nature park is Germany’s most eastwardly situated nature park. It was the first park in Brandenburg, which was opened subsequent to the DDR national park program and ranges from Müllrose in the north to the brown coal district of Jänschwalde in the south. The landscape was formed at the Brandenburger Stadiumof the last ice age. Main characters are the glacial valleys of the Schlaube, the Oelse, the Demnitz and the Dorche as well as the outwash plain near Reicherskreuz, Many animal and plant species are native to this nature park, like the last occurrence of the rare orchids species Frauenschuh. Main subject of the nature park in this structurally weak area is to practise ecological ways of utilisation and to conserve this cultural landscape. Moreover the former monastery Neuzelle and the village Reicherskreuz are cultural places of excursion.
