Naturpark
Siebengebirge

The Siebengebirge is the only nature park, which is also nature reserve in the whole area.

The nature park Siebengebirge ranges from the city area of Bonn to Bad Honnef. The volcanic Siebengebirge is populated since the end of the last ice age got a changeful history. The mountain invites you to hike or to visit the historic sites, like the ruin of the monastery Heisterbach or the castle Drachenburg)
The Siebengebirge plays a decisive role in the German nature reserve and nature parks history. The purchase of the Drachenburg by the Prussia, who stops the quarry activities, was one of the first examples of a victory over economic interests by ideas of nature protection.

In 1923 the Siebengebirge and the Lüneburger Heide were declared as one of the first nature reserves. 25 years later it became a nature park, too.
The nature park Siebengebirge is characterised by a charming and attractive recreation area. It comprises 42 low and higher peaks.
The main subject of the park is to conserve and develop the whole area as a retreat area for many rare plant and animal species. Further subjects are the visitor leading and information.
The strict protection provisions have to be considered, to protect the rare species. So nature protection in the nature park Siebengebirge means preservation of the 2000-year-old cultural landscape and its forests, fruit meadows and vineyards.
