Steinwald

Embedded between Fichtelgebirge and Oberpfälzer forest the mountain ridge of the Steinwald cambers itself as a distinctive landscape.
Conifer forests interspersed with beech form the woodland and the hard primary rocks were eroded to bizarre formations: Räuberfelsen, Vogelfelson, Saubadfelsen and many more.
Above the Platte, the highest peak (946m), the Oberpfalz tower was build, which offers you a panoramic view. The basalt knoll landscape around Waldeck with the Schlossberg, the Anzenstein and the Armesberg marks the west border.
In the northwest the Steinwald is parted from the Fichtelgebirge by the old route for commerce, which comes from Nürnberg.
Marktredwitz marks the north, in the east by the mere area around Muckenthal and Schönhaid. The southern border is the Hessenreuther Wald near Atzmannsberg.
